Pre-movie summary: Military cadets take extreme measures to ensure the future of their academy when it’s existence is threatened by local condo development.
Okay, I love this movie. It’s the one that I practically memorized.
This is one of Tom Cruise’s first movies he actually appears in for more than a minute. His role is about the third biggest. He plays as ‘Cadet Captain David Shawn’. David Shawn is a war junky, he’s in love with it. He’ll do anything to fire someone up, he’s the first one to pick a fight and pick up a weapon. It’s even said by ‘Lieutenant West’ Played by Evan Handler, who says that he thinks Shawn is holding private rallies out there to pump up the other cadets. ‘Cadet Major Moreland’ says that he’s always been like that, and continues to go on and ask West after the Hulk(Another cadet in this movie played by Tim Riley). West agrees that he would want Shawn. This movie then goes on, people decide that they don’t want to be in the ‘war’ that was produced anymore. West walks out with them as he doesn’t want to get in any deeper. Then Cadets get hurt, ‘Cadet Captain J.C. Pierce’ get’s burned trying to help put power back in the school after is cut. After a tank is brought in one of the younger cadets tries to convince his friend to go over the wall with him. His friend says this wont go on forever but then he jumps over the mound of sand bags they were behind, drops his gun and runs to safety. In the process his friend tries and stops him, a bullet fires from the gun lodging itself in his friend’s stomach. Things keep going down hill when ‘Colonel Kerby'(Played by Ronny Cox) says that he and everything else outside the school walls will take the school at dawn if they don’t surrender. Major Moreland goes to surrender before dawn, calling everyone in. But Shawn won’t go down without a fight.
In the end it becomes clear that what the cadets were fighting for wasn’t worth what the end result was.
I thought it was a really good movie, I really liked it. To myself I found the ending expected. Maybe it was just me.
It was an extremely good movie, and I would recommend it to anyone I think would like it.
This movie was shot before ‘The Outsiders’, only Tom Cruise’s second movie. First one he co-stared in.
And this was my first movie review, let me know what you think.
