Damn. I thought as I shunpoed all through soul society towards squad 11 barracks.
She’s back already and I’m running late.
I had taken my time because I had the perfect early birthday present picked out for her, and while in the shop I had lost track of time.
I finally came to the entrance of the compound and was about to open the gate when it got blown open. A lower ranking squad man knocked out and blown into the wall.
I quickly looked over at what had occurred.
Shiai was standing in front of the gate, hunched over and breathing heavily. Her eyes those of a demon. She had been the one to throw him.
After a second she straightened up and I got a good look at her.
This wasn’t a sparring match between two squad members. She was a mile beyond pissed off and I had no idea what had gone on.
I made a slow move into the complex, hoping to approach her unnoticed. But her hawk eyes caught everything. The rage that burned behind her ruby orbs was cut off in the coldest steel that has ever existed.
“What are you doing here?” She demanded. Her voice did not show how mad she actually was, she was an expert at hiding that.
“I was coming over here to see you after you had gotten back from your trip to the living world.” I said slowly, trying to gauge the situation. Glancing at Ikkaku and Yumichika for help here. They wouldn’t look at me.
Kenpachi was sitting seriously on the steps leading into the training building and Yachiru was glaring at me.
“Red, what’s going on?” I pressed.
“You tell me.” She growled tossing a crunched up piece of paper at my head.
Confused I uncrumpled it to see what it was. My face went pale as I saw it was a picture of me and Aiko from the other night when she had kissed me.
I swallowed before looking deep into my girlfriend’s blood red eyes, “Am I allowed to explain or do you just want to gut me now?”
She tightly crossed her arms over her chest, “Does your explanation have anything to do with you being drunk, lonely, or it not being your fault?” She accused.
“I’ll take responsibility where it lay, but I want you to know the truth.” I begged.
“Want me to know? Or don’t want to get killed?” She questioned.
I had to hold back a smirk, “If, when I’m done, you still feel the need to kill me I wont stop you from trying.”
She still glared harshly at me, but I could feel her resolve waver as she was deciding.
“Do you wanna go for a walk?” I asked, “I’ll explain everything, red.”
She threw her hands up in defeat, “Fine!”
She then started striding extremely fast out of the complex. I all but had to run to keep up with her.
If I wasn’t sure before hand, I was 100 percent certain now that she wanted to kill me.
“Do you think we should follow them, captain?” Ikkaku asked his captain.
Kenpatchi opened his eye and looked up at everyone around him. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, squad 11 was a family and they looked after one another. Everyone was concerned for their sister, his daughter.
“If Hisagi has a good reason as to why that happened, then he has a good reason.” He told his men, “If he doesn’t in the next ten or so minutes we’ll be hearing someone getting violently murdered. Shiai is more than capable of taking care of herself. Aside from that, it’s between those two. Don’t interfere unless you want to wound their pride.”
“Shiai!” Shuuhei finally lost his patience and called me by my name, “Please at the very least slow down a little bit.”
I debated for about a second and a half if I should start shunpo, but I decided against it and slowed my stride slightly.
“Who gave you that picture?” He questioned hesitantly.
“Does it matter?” I all but spat.
“I think it does.” He more murmured than anything.
I finally stopped and whipped around to face him.
“Why does it matter?” I whispered, trying not to let my anger consume me, “I think what should matter is after we exchanged ‘I love you’s, and made everything official, and went as far as we have, you take the first opportunity that I’m not here to go and do ‘that’ with another girl. If I’m not enough for you Shuuhei, just tell me. It’s better than going around behind my back trying to keep shit a secret.”
“Shiai,” He looked deep into my eyes, “I meant everything I said when I told you that I loved you. I do. I don’t want to live without you in my life. So, please, believe me when I say you’re more than enough for me. I would never do anything to hurt you, not intentionally anyway.”
“Then explain this!” I finally yelled as I ripped the photo he was still holding in his hand and waved it around, suppressing tears that wanted to fall.
“I was working late on the magazine.” He began, “I finally decided to call it a night, I leave the office and ran into Aiko, quite literally. She was drunk and then started crying. I tried to be nice and lead her out of the complex and back to her barracks, and then she forced herself on me. I swear Shiai I threw her off the second I realized what was going on and yelled at her to stay away from me. I had all the intentions of telling you once you got back too. I wasn’t about to keep something like from you, I-. I just didn’t realize that someone was there and snapped a photo. I’m sorry to have hurt you like this, Shiai. Really.”
I shook my head, partially to try to stop the tears from flowing out of my eyes, “I almost don’t want to believe you.”
“I’ll take responsibility where you find it fit. I just want you to know the truth.”
“You have too big of a heart.” I laughed bitterly, “I told you one day someone would come along and take advantage of it. One day when that happens I might not be able to find it in my heart to forgive you either.”
His head shot up to look at me, he looked relieved.
“You forgive me?” He asked and opened his arms, taking a step forward hoping to wrap me in a hug.
I took a step back.
“I forgive you for something that isn’t your fault.” I corrected, “But I’m till mad. At you. At her. At whoever was holding the camera. And Kuromaru for showing me that thing.”
He smiled brightly at me, taking another step forward.
“No.” Warned taking another step back, steeling my eyes and demeanor.
His smile was slowly melting my resolve.
“I forgive you. But I wanna be mad. At least for a little bit. At least until I can grind that bitch’s face into the rock a few dozen times until she tells me who was behind it all!”
I felt the sinister smirk break out across my lips at the thought of what I would do.
“I want one hug before you’re allowed to be mad.” Shuuhei bargained.
I scoffed, “Excuse me, you don’t have the footing right now to be making offers like that.”
His grin grew, “Don’t I?”
“No.” I growled losing my patience, “Once I’ve had the revenge on the correct people that I want, you can have all the hugs and kisses and cuddles you could ever want, teddy bear. But until then, I’m still salty with you.”
Shuuhei dropped his arms and pouted slightly for a moment before he sighed.
“Alright, I guess that’s fair. Thanks for not killing me.” He shrugged.
I grinned, “No problem. Just, I would suggest not swinging around the squad 11 complex anytime soon. At least not until I give you the green light it’s all forgiven, anyway.”
He sighed again, “Also fair.”
